The championships consist of 12 competitions over nine days and gather more than 1 150 athletes from around 80 participating nations. The championships are expected to attract approximately 500 000 spectators and over 300 million TV viewers.
"The level of interest in cycling and the UCI Road World Championships is high in Norway, and like everyone else we're looking forward to the championships. The stamps we're issuing are designed by illustrator Ragnar Aalbu. The inspiration for his design came from cyclists and the mountains of western Norway," says Stamp Director Halvor Fasting.
Aalbu has received a number of awards for his decorative and stylized illustrations.
Norwegian Cycling Federation president Harald Tiedemann Hansen is pleased that Posten Norge is issuing stamps for the championships:
"With the vision 'Race to Celebrate', we want the UCI Road World Championships to be spectacular, inspiring and popular. The fact that Posten is issuing stamps contributes to that celebration," he says.
Both stamps are denominated for priority mail and can thus be used to send regular mail under 20 grams in Norway. The stamps went on sale on Friday 16 June. During the World Championships from 16 to 24 September, Posten Norge will be in place in Bergen selling a new envelope with World Championship stamps and logo stamp every day.
